I'm a big pet lover, if I'm going shopping 80 % of time I try to find something for my fur baby, treat, accessories or clothes! And that's how I find ohpopdog on Etsy store, and turn into their fan. Especially Fall and Winter is coming closer, is the best time get some new clothes to our baby pet, right?
Q: Would you share with us how you started to create your art work?
Z & G: We were very much in love with dogs and we thought it'll be fun to do something that revolves around them.
Z: Many times when we looking for dog clothings, they are always too fanciful. So, we thought we could come up with something more that is more to our liking.
Q: What's story behind your brand?
Z &G: Ohpopdog is our idea of a happy sounding name that’s almost like an exclamation. Although it appears to be one word, ideally it should read ‘Oh!’, ‘Pop!’, ‘Dog!’. To us, it means a happy dog and creation; and also happy dog (after wearing! haha!).
Q: Do you want to share your work place ?
Z&G: We work from our little space at home!
Q: What is your working schedule like?
Both of us, usually work during night time, because we have a full-time job as well.
Z: I am in the F&B Industry and a part time designer as well.
G: I was in Print for awhile, and recently i have decided to try out in the digital section!
Q: Which type of material do you like to use the most and why?
Z: Mainly cotton – it is soft, durable and suitable for the humid climate (especially in Singapore). It rarely causes allergic reaction and that is why baby clothings are usually made from cotton fabric.
Cotton Jersey – due to it stretchability hence it is good for the furkids to move comfortably.
Q: Which piece is your favorite or sells the best?
G&Z: We do have a few pieces in mind, that we like, which is the below:
Q: Where does your inspiration come from?
Everyday little moments in life, and Bacon! All the clothings are simply what we want our furkid to look like and to bring out the little characters in them.
Q: Do you remember when you sold your first item and how you felt?
G: Yes! The happy feeling continues till today still! And we are always so happy whenever we made our sales and chatting with our customers.
Z: Our first flea with went without any expectations. We were there simply to just enjoy ourselves. When we had got the first item sold, the feeling is indescribable. There are a mixture of joy and at the back of your mind, flashes of the hard work we went through to start all the clothings. It is all worth it!
Q: What's the hardest part of your design career?
G:, I guess we are always trying to find more time and getting more things done whenever we can.
Z: The hardest for me would be always trying to improve our designs and secondly is to search for fabrics.
Q: Which part of working do you enjoy the most?
The moment when all the fabrics have made into clothes and we put it on Bacon.
Q: What it your next project?
We hope to look further into daily objects, as simple as side table. Incorporating different ways of living with our pets.
We would be coming up with more lifestyle products for furkids. Such as improving on current products (such as dog bowl) that the furkids or the human are using daily.
Q: What kind of books do you like to read, and what kind of music do you like?
We do not have any books or music in particular. But we love looking at magazines, browsing thru different kind of matters. We are currently into Popeye Magazine!
Q: If you were not a designer, what do you think you would be?
G: Dog Groomer? Definitely something that doesn't deal directly with designing.
Z: Barista! Making good coffee and latte art!!!
Q:.If young people want to follow the same path as you, what would you suggest?
G: Grab any opportunity, because you won't know when is the next one going to come by again.
Z: Do not procrastinate.
Q: Is there anything you want to share with us?
Both: We love our girl, Bacon alot!
