Q: Would you share with us how you started to create your art work?
I grew up surrounded by creative people; my father is a writer and my mother is as well a writer and a painter so it felt natural to follow the creative path. I have always been inspired by nature, but the place where I am clearly inspired from is the place where I live: The Mediterranean; my products have a Mediterranean style with a Scandinavian touch: Scandimed.
Q: What's story behind your brand?
In 2008 Paleolochic born out of a stone which I sand it, wax it and apply crystals to add a chic look: Palaeolithic but chic. Soon I realized that those treasures were too heavy to sell and then was when my other passion took over: Textiles, since then I couldn't escape from it (nor do I want it). I’ve kept the name and transform my brand to what it is now: a textile design brand who will easily add colour and texture to any home or office. We are still growing, so we will see how we end up.
Q: What is your working schedule like?
My Schedule it's very hectic right now. I am in the process of hiring someone to help me with the load which has considerably grew in the past year.
I start my day around 8.30 am, once my daughter is off to school, check e-mails, social media, and my agenda. I try to finish all deadlines first and then work on orders till 1PM. A short lunch break and work on new things if I don’t have many orders (which lately I have, hurray!!) I pick up my daughter from school at 16hrs and we spend a couple of hours in the park, the rest of the afternoon will depend on the workload but usually is doing some bookkeeping, checking and tweaking my shop, check exchange rates and update them, editing photos and e-mails and work on ideas I have while I am sewing. After dinner I am done, need some rest!
Q: Which type of material do you like to use the most and why?
That's easy: cotton and linen, most of my products are done with these two materials. I like the way they age and the freshness of their texture and touch.
Q: Which piece is your favourite or sells the best?
On pillow covers my best seller is the Mikado design, a design that I really love and works great with different styles. From my cotton housewares collection I love the Kone boxes, they are inspired by the spices markets from India, I think they are versatile and they also make a great statement.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from?
Inspired by traditional crafts, the Mediterranean Sea, its beautiful islands and also the clean Scandinavian style helps me to design home décor textile accessories for an easy going decor.
Q: What's the hardest part of your design career?
Wearing multiple hats I find the hardest, Would love to have more time to create that is why I am hiring an employee very soon.
Q: Which part of working do you enjoy the most?
I love when my designs go live and receive the feedback from the audience out there. After working so hard on them it is gratifying to see them interact with others.
Q: What it your next project?
I am working on rugs and puffs for the next year, a collection inspired by the desert and the nomad way of life.
Q: What kind of books do you like to read, and what kind of music do you like?
I love reading, though I don’t have much time right now, love novels, biographies, philosophy, and all things well written. I am also a home décor magazine addict, especially French magazines. I love listening to jazz, classical music, or artists like Alice as police woman, Russian Red, the truth is that I am very open minded about music as long as it is good.
Q: If you were not a designer, what do you think you would be?
I would love to be a photographer, a writer, a magazine director…an astronaut?
Q:.If young people want to follow the same path as you, what would you suggest?
Living of what you love is hard work but it's totally worth it. I suggest anyone wanting to make a living out of their passion, young or old, is to read and learn as much books, articles, blogs, etc. related to your business, enjoy creating but focus on selling and being profitable, stay true to yourself but also be realistic and allow changes and different strategies., what have work for others will not necessarily work for your business. Will not happen overnight and sometimes you will want to quit but don't do it just keep going and eventually all the effort will make click!
