I'm not a woman know how to style my hair so much, but I really like the elegant looking accessories for hair, so one day I was trying to find something to change a little bit my hair style and find The Ancient Muse, each of her work is so beautiful and elegant ( you will see that by picture) and interested thing is in my ancient Chinese culture, lot of woman like to use hair stick also. Just want to tell you I love her design and like to share with y'all.
Q: Would you share with us how you started to create your art work?
I was studying archeology in Uk. I have come to Turkey for an excavation and it was at Temple of Apollo (god of music and sun). It was a bug excavation so we could excavate organic materials which do not survive in normal conditions because water cut the air. I cut it short, ı excavate an olive tree from nearly 2000 years ago and I was amazed. It was beautiful, twisting and turning branch from thousands of year ago. For others, they were more amazed by gold and silver. After the excavation finished and I returned home I took a piece of wood and start carving and here I am.
Q: What's story behind your brand?
That tree from the Temple of Apollo has been the story behind of my brand. The name, The Ancient Muse, is what I called that tree in my imagination as it was my ancient Muse, As the like the muses of god Apollo, whom that temple was dedicated to.
Q: What is your working schedule like?
I read a lot and spend lots of time understanding other cultures and something inspires me anytime anywhere. I search for a paper and pen and draw. Then I go to my workshop table and work on it.
Q: Which type of material do you like to use the most and why?
I love wood. It is living, it was a tree once and now it is trimmed from its own tree but when you cut it into pieces you can see lines like human veins and knots. These are living and accrued by time and patience of nature. It will still live after it become a tool or an accessory, ı love working with wood because of this.
Q: Which piece is your favorite or sells the best?
I don't have a favorite piece as they are all my babies but tribal horse round hair stick is very popular with buyers.
Q: Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from the past, from Vikings, European medieval age, France and also Asian culture and Harajuku. I love the elegance
Q: Do you remember when you sold your first item and how you felt?
It was three weeks after I opened my etsy shop I sold a unicorn hair fork and a necklace. I felt so exited I can't explain I was screaming.
Q: What's the hardest part of your design career?
Last year ı had to move Turkey from France. It was a huge decision for me but I was going to have a workshop in Turkey and in France I was working at my flat. I could not get use to here at first and I even through to give up but then I get motivated by positive feedbacks from my customers and here I am.
Q: Which part of working do you enjoy the most?
I like carving process, it is like digging what should exist. Slowly ı carve and my imagination come alive.
Q: What it your next project?
I am hoping to come with different style of hair sticks.
Q: What kind of books do you like to read, and what kind of music do you like?
I love to read fantastic books and mostly listen rock music.
Q: If you were not a designer, what do you think you would be?
I would be an archaeologist as I was almost.
Q:.If young people want to follow the same path as you, what would you suggest?
I think creating designs is a very time consuming thing. They should not give up quickly. Keep going until you arive.
Q: Is there anything you want to share with us?
Just one thing about wood itself, the world of wood is amazing. They are like candies. It is not just a plain wood. But it is unknown numbers of colors and variations from pink to purple even to white.
